Hi, I'm Ben.

I'm a communications strategist, storyteller, creative, and community advocate based in San Diego.

Throughout my career, I've gravitated toward work centered on a simple idea: people deserve to understand the decisions, institutions, and issues that affect their lives and… they deserve meaningful opportunities to be part of them.

Today, I lead communications work in San Diego city government, developing communications strategies, managing media relations, shaping digital content, and translating complex public policy into stories and information people can actually understand and use.

But communications wasn't where my career started.

Before entering local government, I spent years working in higher education, community engagement, leadership development, and equity-focused programming. I've advised students, managed large-scale programs, developed trainings, organized community initiatives, and worked alongside people from communities too often left out of institutional decision-making.

Those experiences fundamentally shaped the communicator I became.

They taught me to listen before speaking, to think carefully about who an audience is, to make complicated information accessible, and to remember that behind every policy, program, campaign, or headline there are real people.

I bring that perspective to everything I create. Whether I'm developing a communications strategy, preparing someone for an interview, designing a social media campaign, writing remarks, producing a video, or finding the story that helps an issue connect.

I care about good design. I care about good writing. I care about strategy.

Most importantly, I care about whether the work connects with people.

Beyond the Work

San Diego isn't just where I work. It's a community I've spent years being part of.

My community and leadership experience has included work across civic engagement, LGBTQ+ advocacy, youth leadership, equity and inclusion, higher education, and neighborhood organizing.

Those experiences continue to shape both the communicator and the person I strive to be.
